Update From the Board

The Board of Trustees have changed their monthly meeting day to the third Thursday of each month.  Their next meeting will be on Thursday, April 19th, starting at 6 PM.  Prominent on the Agenda will be the current financial status of Polaris and our future plans, including a five-year budget forecast and the budget for the 2018-2019 school year.  Members of the public are always welcome to attend the Board of Trustee meetings and have an opportunity to share their thoughts and suggestions at the beginning of each meeting.

School Calendar Changes

Due to the number of school cancellations, we have made the following adjustments to our calendar:

The third trimester Learning Celebrations have been moved from June 6th/7th to June 13th/14th

We now have school June 15th, 18th, 19th and 20th (regular early release day)

Our last scheduled day is June 20th. This is subject to change if we have more cancellations

Parent/Teacher/Student conferences will take place the afternoon of June 20th and June 21st

We will also be adding one full day of school on a Wednesday. The date is to be determined as we plan this to be our Field Day at Camp Carpenter.

Intermediate Learning Celebration

It was great to see so many families!

Polaris students worked hard this past trimester learning “How Things Work.”

All of the projects were very creative!

 Vela Class Share

Mrs. Fesh’s class is starting to learn about different types of Journeys and Cycles. Each student wrote about “When I think of a journey, I think of….” and came up with ideas like birds flying North back from the South, traveling to my summer house in Maine, planets moving around the sun and many more!

Star Student

Our Star Students recognized so far this month were:

Serena, Keegan, Andrea, Sawyer, Cooper and Connor.

Izzy, Morgan, Binta, Calvin, Noah, Sydney, Temperance and Dominik.

Mrs. Apac’s Class

Mrs. Apac’s class did an asteroid STEM activity this week. Students were given a list of materials (foil, golf balls, tennis balls, ping pong balls, paper bags, tape) with which they could engineer an asteroid that would create a crate 2″ wide when dropped into a pan of flour from a distance of 3′. The team that came closest made a crater that measured 1 7/8″ across.

 PEF News

Over just a few years, the PEF annual auction fundraiser has evolved from a small breakfast with a few items to a large scale event expected to raise more than $10,000 this year for Polaris.

We’re moving the date of our annual PEF fundraising event to mid-May.

This new upcoming PEF sponsored event is being changed from a “Gala” event to a live “Game-a-Thon” event. We are excited to offer this new and fun way of raising monies for our community of learners at Polaris.

Stay tuned as we will be sharing more information about this event and how you can plan to attend in advance. Thank you for your continued support of our largest fundraising event of the year.

The event will be held in May 2018 at LaBelle Winery in Amherst, NH.

Information on ticket sales will be posted to the PEF Facebook page and Polaris Newsletter in the near future.

Many of those who run the PEF as board members will be completing their final year in 2018.This organization needs several new parents to help backfill these positions and get ready for the 2018–2019 school year.

Please take the time to consider how you may be able to contribute. Free training!

In addition to anticipated vacant board positions, we need a Chair to start a Robotics Program and also a Chair to take over the Student Ambassador program. Contact us please for more information if interested.

Please e-mail pef@polarischarterschool.org

A sledding party, a student choice event, the annual Read-a-Thon and much more are in progress! Stay tuned…

Best Wishes,

Jayme Putnam, Miles Martin
