It is time to re-enroll your child(ren) at Polaris for the next academic year. You should have just received an email from Sycamore (our student information system) with your family’s username/password to login and re-enroll on Wednesday. The link is:
Please remember to click on Re-Enroll. The deadline for re-enrolling your current Polaris student is Friday, January 27th, 2017. This is also when you can add a sibling. If you are enrolling a new child, you MUST download and complete the paper application that you will find at the end of the online process. The deadline for the paper application for a sibling is February 24th. Please be aware that if we have more sibling applicants that we have openings for a sibling lottery will be held. You are not required to attend another Information Session or Family Appointment although you may still want to meet with us if your child has specific needs we should be aware of.
If you have any questions please contact Liz or Jen. Thank you!
From the Board of Trustees
Your Board of Trustees is planning the next Open Forum related to our Strategic Plan. The topic will be “Education and Curriculum,” which we hope will stimulate lots of interest and fruitful discussion by a broad range of participants. In the Strategic Plan, both academic rigor and student behavior were addressed as goals under this heading. The staff is well aware of these goals and has been working on specific improvement tasks throughout the summer and fall of 2016. Now, it is time to bring the rest of the Polaris community into the discussion of our goals for “Education and Curriculum.” Please note that the discussion will focus on school-wide progress toward reaching the goals set forth in the Strategic Plan, and not on individual student achievement. Save the date and time:
Open Forum on “Education and Curriculum” at Polaris Charter School:
February 15th, 7 PM
The next meeting of the Board of Trustees will be Tuesday, January 22nd at 6 pm. The public is always welcome to attend; time for public comments is reserved immediately following the reading of our Mission Statement, at the start of every Board meeting. If anyone wishes to make more than a brief comment, and/or ask the Board to address a specific topic on the agenda, please contact the Board Chair, Dr. Jill Cane at firstname.lastname@example.org. Agendas will be posted in the school’s newsletter in the week prior to the monthly meeting.
When you are dropping off your children at curbside in the morning, please do not allow them to exit the vehicle until a staff member is AT the curb. Our student’s and staff’s safety is of utmost concern!
Core Value – Acceptance
January’s Core Value focuses on Acceptance. On Tuesday, we discussed one definition of Acceptance: ‘the process or fact of being received as adequate, valid or suitable.’ We also read the book ” Incredible You!: 10 Ways to Let Your Greatness Shine Through by Dr. Wayne W. Dyer. Everything about accepting others comes from within us and this was a nice companion piece to begin discussing how we differ, we are the same and that love and acceptance of each other means so much.
On Wednesday afternoon, all staff received safety training from Manchester Police Department’s Officer Linstad. In conjunction with his guidance, we now have a completely updated safety plan that he and Liz created. His presentation focused mainly on what to do in a lockdown situation as several updates have been made due to experiences from recent history. He will be returning and visiting each classroom to review the process with our students in a fun, engaging but serious way. Following that he will join us when we conduct our first practice. It is incredibly sad that we even need to have these kinds of discussions but taking every precaution to the best to ensure the safety of our students and staff is of the utmost concern!
Our last group of Caring students from last month were recognized on Tuesday. A special acknowledgment was given to Bria, Drew, Evelyn, Jared (not pictured) Kayla and Teagan. Mrs. Dudley’s entire class was also recognized.
We could use donations of plastic spoons and forks.
Vela Class Share
On Friday, Mrs. Fesh’s class wrote out and read to us their New Year’s resolutions. As with many of us, many focused on physical fitness!

All parents are invited to our next PEF Meeting on Thursday, Jan 12th at 7pm at the school. We have many exciting things going on and are eager to have parent input.
After School Enrichments
Due to some insurance requirements we have a slight delay in the scheduling afterschool enrichments for on-site Enrichments. We will be posting the schedule for the Winter and Spring on-site Enrichments as soon as we can.
As of now, it does not appear like we have enough parents able to belay to run the program on Wednesday afternoons for the Off-site Vertical Dream program.. (If you are able and haven’t already let us know, please do so!!)
We could still run a climbing program on Friday afternoons (approximately 3:15-5:15 with trained belayers) and have two choices:
A 6 week program for $150
A 12 week program for $230.
Parents would be responsible for arranging transport to Vertical Dreams (the climbing gym) but would not need to stay on site during the climbing session.
Please email us at email@example.com to express your interest and preference. Thank you!
PEF Auction– The PEF Auction Planning Committee continues to plan for our for Silent Auction and Gala that is coming up on March 11th. While we are receiving donations from various organizations, we would like to ask you, our Polaris community, for support.
Do you run your own small business? Do your neighbors have their own businesses? Do you have a favorite local business that you want to help promote? Do you know someone with their own direct selling business? Donating to the auction is a great way for businesses to advertise to local families and support their community.
Do you have a special skill that could be turned into an auction item? We have one parent who has generously offered to make a custom handmade dress. Thank you Missy Bedell Demers for this donation for the 2nd year!
Do you have a vacation home/ time share you won’t need to use?
Can you ask at your place of employment if they would help sponsor the donation of a larger item, such as a weekend getaway, airline tickets, hotel, etc? Thank you Jayme Putnam for working with your company Homewood Suites for their generous donation!
Or perhaps your company can be a sponsor and help cover some of the event expenses.
For a donation request letter or sponsorship breakdown, please visit https://polariseducationalfoundation.org/…/fundrai…/auction/
Please return any donations you collect to the school, and mark it “Attn: Silent Auction”.
