Miss Daniela came to Polaris on Thursday and presented us with a check for almost $8000 raised at the auction fundraiser. In addition to the auction being a lot of fun – it raised a significant sum that will be used for staff professional development. The first thing it will be used for is staff Responsive Classroom training in June. The Responsive Classroom approach is a researched and evidenced based program that combines students’ social and emotional growth into their academic learning. It has been shown to increase academic achievement, decrease problem behaviors, improve social skills, and improve instruction. You can read more about it here.

Student Appreciation Day
We could not have asked for better weather for the fun activities and picnic we had on Wednesday. We had relay races, hula hoop pass, “chariot” races and bean bag bucket toss as well as free play on the playground. We could not have had such a fun day without the help of the volunteers who gave their time and we sincerely appreciate it. We also enjoyed some delicious fruit popsicles donated by the Bridgett/Paquette family. Thank you everyone!
Our persevering Star Students this week were Daniel, David, Sophia, Sydney, Torrey, Tristan and Tyler.
In addition, Raden nominated by Sofia and Cole after they observed helping out a teacher and Calvin was nominated by Ms. Gilbert for his work with one of her students during buddy time.
Great job everyone!
We showed our school spirit this week by dressing up. Students showed some wonderful creativity!
The PEF is still looking for committee members. Committee members are asked to help carry out the duties of the committees. Committee members do not necessarily need to come to PEF meetings, but should be available for occasional committee meetings.
The Volunteer Committee is looking for “room parents” for next school year. Room parents will coordinate between the Volunteer Chair and their student’s teacher by making sure flyers make it into backpacks, and making sure the Volunteer Chair knows of upcoming in-class volunteer opportunities, etc.
The Events Committee plans and executes all of Polaris’ events, parents who like planning parties and potlucks and maybe don’t have a lot of time to be at the school during the day should consider this committee.
The Fundraising Committee plans all of our fundraisers. This is great for parents who don’t mind making lots of phone calls, and helping to put together fundraising materials (I.E. Our fantastic “Pennies for Polaris” flyers and collections jars).
The Enrichment Committee plans all of the enrichments for the school year. This is great for parents who are good at creating various documents (Google Sheets, Forms, vendor contracts, Brochures) and have great attention to detail.

The groups make their own meeting times. The following is a description of what the groups are responsible for:
Outreach and PR:
1. Increase our presence by developing relations with local businesses, other non-profits including charter schools and other relevant organizations.
2. Increase our service to the gifted community by providing information, resources and support.
1. The Board of Trustees will take the lead in creating a fundraising plan to help sustain the school.
2. Evaluate alternate financial projections related to the other aspects of the strategic plan.

The end of the year is upon us, so get rid of those BoxTops while you still can! Although we only submit twice per year, our great BoxTops coordinator Karen trims and readies them all year.
We’re going to be offering a last minute movie enrichment next Wednesday, June 8th at 12:50. $5/student, popcorn and movie included. Movie TBA!
