  Smarter Balanced Assessment

The Smarter Balanced Assessment will be administered Monday April 11th – Friday April15th. After Morning Gathering, the children will have a snack and then test until approximately 10:45. Please make every effort to have your child(ren) here and on time. If you have any questions contact Jen.

Core Value – Trustworthiness

During the month of April we will be discussing Trustworthiness. We began by discussing what it means. We also listened to The Truth Song. The students enjoyed it so much that several asked me to send them the link to it and they would like to play it again. You can listen to it here. Then we read the following quote:

Trust is like the air we breathe. When it’s present, nobody really notices. But when it’s absent, everybody notices. -Warren Buffet

Star Students

Our responsible star students from last week were honored on Monday. Congratulations to: Akshay, Ayla, Bindhi, Ella, Katie, Lolo, Mikail and Jared.

 Sculptor Class Share

In Mrs. Rainey’s class, we are hard at work on many projects that relate to our trimester theme of Ecosystems! In Science, we are building terrariums and will be observing them for growth and changes. Prior to building these, we learned all about the different steps of the water cycle. Students created comic strips to show their understanding of this important concept. We are also learning about national parks and their importance. Students have created their own travel agency and are making brochures, websites or poster boards to convince us to visit a national park of their choice.

Volunteers Needed

We are in desperate need for parents to sit on the Polaris Educational Foundation Board for next year. Elections occur next month, and we’ll be needing parents to fill most positions. Some current members of the board have children who will be leaving, some have filled their positions for the maximum 2 years. These positions are more crucial to the day-to-day operations of your children’s school than at a traditional public school, as the PEF fills in gaps in the budget due to the decreased funding a charter school receives. Without these positions being filled our ability to fund things like an emergency fund, teacher education, and a playground fund will be negatively impacted. Please consider running by yourself, or running with a friend to share a position on the board!
