For the past few weeks in Art class, Ms. Zuber has been working with students in Ms. Perham’s and Ms. Vlasich’s classes on designing logos for businesses they created for their classroom projects. With this project, they have explored graphic design, including the use of simplified pictures, colors and fonts to tell the story of their business through a logo.
On Friday, December 4th, the students met visiting artist, Neva Cole. Ms. Cole, Director of Communications at the Children’s Museum of New Hampshire, is the artist who designed the Polaris logo. After hearing about the process that Ms. Cole went through to design our school logo, the students each presented their work to her for valuable feedback. Throughout the presentation, Ms. Cole spoke about the evolving process of art, and how to turn “mistakes” into “happy accidents”.
The students look forward to sharing their finished logos with you at the Learning Celebration!
Our earnings from this fundraiser are up to $60! I know how crazy this month can be for everyone, but the Hannaford Helps blue Good Karma bag is perfect for carrying food and gifts, and they also make great presents! For every bag purchased at the Goffstown Hannaford on Mast Rd. $1 will be donated to Polaris.
Core Value – Caring/Kindness
December’s Core Value is Caring/Kindness. This week we talked about what showing it looks like and sounds like. We also watched the video to a song about random acts of kindness that you can view here.
Last Monday, we honored the students who were great citizens the week before Thanksgiving. Nice job: Adam, Caedan, Colton, Noah, Sebastian, Serena and Yoni.

Ms. Perham’s students decided to act out the Aesop Fable “The Lion and the Mouse” at Morning Gathering on Friday. In the story, the lion lets the mouse go unharmed and later, the mouse repays that act of kindness by chewing through a net and freeing the lion from hunters. They then put on a dance to the song “Lean on Me” by Bill Withers.
Miss Haynes’ math groups recently ventured outside to do a few foot races. I assure you that they were doing math! A few students were timed walking 25ft, and their times were recorded. Then everyone got a chance to run 25ft and their times were recorded as well. Next, all of the data was analyzed. They talked about how distance, rate, and time were related and wrote equations to express these relations. They then looked at the different ratios of the time it took to walk vs. the time it took to run, they compared the ratios, they performed some statistical operations like mean, median, mode, and range, and they wrote ratios to compare the different rates.
