Week Ending 10/2/15

From the Directors

It has been another busy week here at Polaris. Many classes began brainstorming project ideas and are now in the planning stages. Our primary classes also enjoyed a visit by Sydney’s dad SFC Johnson. He talked about some of his army experiences, the places he has been and the students were able to examine some equipment. Ask your child how they say ‘yes’ in the army!

We would like to give a special thanks to Mara. She found $.41 and she donated it to Polaris. It was very thoughtful!

Please remember to vote everyday for Polaris in the Kris Wine Art of Education Contest. We have slipped from fourth to fifth place. This is a great opportunity to support art at Polaris.  Please use the link below or go to their Facebook page.  You do not have to be on Facebook to participate. Enter your birthday and then the zip code 03102 to vote for us

Spread the word!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Congratulations Kayla

To commemorate The New Hampshire Commission for Human Rights 50th anniversary, they held two contests, one essay and one poster.  The theme of the poster contest was “Celebrating Diversity in our Community.” There were entries from all over the state and it was announced that Kayla in Ms. Perham’s class won the poster contest for her age group. We are so proud of her!

Core Value – Friendship

What is the purpose of an umbrella? Of course it helps keep us dry but it also provides protection. We are good friends when we keep others under our protection. We listened to the song “Umbrella” by Marie Digby  that illustrates this. The chorus is:

When the sun shines
We shine together
Told you I’ll be here forever
That I’ll always be your friend
Took an oath
I’mma stick it out to the end
Now that’s it rainin’ more than ever
Know that we still have each other
You can stand under my umbrella
You can stand under my umbrella
Ella ella eh eh eh
Under my umbrella
Ella ella eh eh eh

At Wednesday’s gathering, students were presented with two wrapped presents. One was wrapped in bright, shiny wrapping paper with a pretty bow while the other was sloppily wrapped in tissue paper. Students picked which box they would choose to open. The majority chose the pretty box. Julian and Lilyana volunteered to each on wrap a box. Inside the pretty box was rocks and dirt and inside the messy box were M & Ms. Everyone immediately made the connection that when making friends, it does not matter what we look like on the outside it is what is inside that counts. We just need to take the steps to get to know each other.

Maliha shared a wonderful poem that she had written about friendship on Thursday. It reads:

Friendship Poem
By Maliha

Friendship is very strong
Sometimes with friends you don’t get along,
Some people have best friends,
Some people do not,
Some people are witnesses when best friends have fought.
Friendship is love,
Friendship is warm,
Sometimes friendship can be held on a farm!
Chickens, horses, cows and dogs,
They’re all friends even with the hogs!
Friendship is amazing to have,
Sometimes when you don’t you feel really sad 😦
Friendships at home,
Friendships at school,
Friendship is everywhere including the pool.
Nobody’s perfect,
Nobody’s bad
Sometimes you’re happy and sometimes you’re mad!
Friends are honest, caring and kind.
Sometimes for people friends are hard to find.
Lots of people do not have friends
But here at Polaris the love never ends.

Ms. Perham’s class has been reading “The Littles” series by John Peterson. They worked in groups of four to design habitats for the Littles. Everyone shared their ideas, made compromises and worked together to create something wonderful.
