The Week Ending 12/5/14

Polaris Star

 Drop off/Pick Up

Starting Monday, Dec. 8th, we must strictly enforce the following policies from the handbook.  Parents are not allowed to enter the parking lot to drop-off or pick-up their child.  Please park on Coolidge Ave or Cartier St and walk your child into the front office. Children will no longer be admitted to the building without an accompanying adult.  Should a child be left at the door, we will call you to come back and sign them in.

An additional safety measure that clearly has to be taken:  Parents will no longer be allowed to come into the school to dismiss their child during pick-up time.  If you cannot participate in the car line procedures, you must arrive before 2:30pm to pick up your child.

Today, two parents’ vehicles almost hit a vehicle in our parking lot.  Another vehicle also almost hit one of our students!  During our snow-day, a parent dropped a child off at our closed building and nearly drove off. (A CASA employee stopped them to tell them that we were closed).  Parents dropping off and picking up students at our front door have become a safety hazard. We want to assure the safety of our students, families, staff and neighbors. Thank you for your assistance.

Playground Safety Update

City officials are reconsidering our request to add bollards at the corner of Cartier and Kelly Street to protect our children playing outside.  Last year, a vehicle crashed through that corner. Luckily, recess had just ended and no one was hurt. Thank you Camila Miranda for your tireless efforts to get permission from the city to place the bollards.

Funding for Bollards!

We must raise the money to purchase the bollards. Today the New Hampshire Liberty Alliance (NHLA) Civic Action Fund is launching an online fundraiser for our playground safety needs, specifically for the safety bollards! They have pledged to contribute $1,200 in matching funds.

Please click the link below to donate to the effort here & now as your contribution (up to $1200) will be doubled!!

Please also share this link today or tomorrow on your facebook pages, twitter, etc!

You can also visit their facebook page to share the link https://www.facebook.com/NHLiberty

We are well on our way to making our play space joyful and safer for our kids and with your help  we will reach our goal!

Core Value – Kindness

Our Core Value for the month of December is Kindness.  On Monday, we defined it and brainstormed a list of synonyms. These are characteristics that we friends need to show each other as well as staff. On Thursday, students listened to Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World and discussed why that song related to kindness.

To correspond with this, Polaris has adopted three families to assist this holiday season as well as Marguerite’s Place.  If you can, please donate a gift or gift cards. The deadline is December 15th. Teachers will be sending out further details about the family members they have ‘adopted.’

Mrs. Fesh’s Class Share Day

Students in Mrs. Fesh’s class performed the “Days of the Week” song at Morning Gathering.  They also shared their class constitution.

Star Students

Due to the Thanksgiving break, we rolled that week into this one and star students will be recognized next Monday.

Mandarin Chinese Paradise

Dear Parents,

I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!  I had to stay in a hotel for two days last Thursday and Friday.  That was a different kind of Thanksgiving! This week our students are learning some colors and learned a phrase to say “I like X color.”  Next week, we are continuing to learn more colors and may be able to converse a few phrases with their fellow students from what we have learned so far. Have a good weekend!

Ms. Wong
