Polaris Star

After Care

The YMCA is taking over our after-school care program AT Polaris.  If you were enrolled with New Morning, you must enroll with Y to continue after November 25th.  If you are interested, but haven’t received an enrollment packet please contact Liz Putnam.  Registrations were due this Friday, Nov 14th but if you are late contact Liz.

The YMCA does not offer pay-as-you-use service.  You must pay weekly for the Enrollment program that you register for.  For families registered with the Y program at Polaris, you can use Snow Day care at their Manchester site.  Vacation Camps are also offered. For more information click here.

Announcements

  • There will be no After-school care on Wednesday, Nov 26th due to the Thanksgiving holiday
  • The first trimester Learning Celebration will take place on Wednesday, December 10th at 5:30pm
  • The Parent/Student Handbook has been revised and updated.  You can find it here.

Cancellation/Delays

As winter weather is approaching, this is a good time to review Polaris Charter School’s school cancellation/delay policy.  Our school follows the Manchester School District’s weather-related decisions;  if they are closed/delayed we are too.  Cancellations or delays will be announced before 6:30 a.m. on the following radio and TV stations:

WZID-FM (95.7)                     WMLL-FM (96.5)

WGIR-AM (610) & FM (101.1)         WMUR-TV Channel 9

We also typically send an email and post it on the PEF Facebook page.  On occasion, Polaris may make an independent weather-related decision, as our students come from many towns and cities in New Hampshire. In such instances, the radio and TV stations mentioned above will carry any special announcements for Polaris Charter School. Parents are encouraged to use their own discretion in commuting on days with snow or icy conditions. If you decide that travel conditions are too hazardous, whether or not school has been delayed or cancelled, your child(ren) will be given an excused absence. If Polaris is in session, weather-related absences should still be called in to the School Office and followed up with a written excuse, signed by the parent/ guardian.

If there is a delayed opening for the Manchester School District on a Wednesday, Polaris Charter School will be closed.

Core Value – Citizenship

I hope that everyone enjoyed their Veterans Day holiday and thank you to all that have served! During morning gathering this week we learned some of the history behind Veterans Day.

Veterans Day Assembly

Sargent Keith Johnson, a Polaris parent, and another soldier visited our Intermediate classes on Monday for a Veterans Day assembly. Various items such as a Humvee, body armor, field packs and MRE’s were available for touch and try. Students were taught how to do a formation, how to say ‘yes’ the army way and and that military time is based on a 24 hour clock. The presentation was very interactive and the kids were able to learn about the army, what soldiers do and ask questions. There was even a push up contest where Joe narrowly edged out Maverick for the most. All the students were also given t-shirts. Thank you Sargent Johnson for your time and your service.
